Stateside Foods Community Clean-Up

A litter pick, cleaning up some of Westhoughton’s most popular walking routes has been carried out by Stateside Foods Ltd.

Having developed their Corporate Social Responsibility team over the last year, Stateside Foods has developed relationships with Bolton Arena, Westhoughton High School, and is also one of the main sponsors of the Bolton & Bury Business Awards and Bolton Food Festival.

It became apparent to the company that in certain areas of the town, litter had become an issue. Managing Director, Jon Lucas, said ‘There are some very pretty walks in the areas around the Wingates Estate which for a keen walker, can take you right through to nearby Borsdane Wood and Westhoughton Golf Course, but these areas are being spoiled by the amount of litter that is left. Westhoughton is our community – we care about it and need to look after it.’

Working in partnership with Bolton Council and Bagnall & Morris Skips, a team of 20 volunteers tackled Long Lane, footpaths near Westhoughton Golf Club and Dobb Brow, Manchester Road and Chew Moor last Thursday. Over 50 bin liners of plastic bottles, cans and empty crisp packets were filled.

Councillor Kevan Jones, Town Mayor of Westhoughton, said ‘I am pleased that one of our largest businesses in the local area has taken it upon themselves to tidy up our town. I hope other businesses can follow Stateside Foods’ example and organise a litter pick in their area. Together, we can keep our community litter free.’
